Forex trading signals

Not to be confused with forex signals, trading signals.

Forex trading signals are messages that tell a recipient what currency trade to place, usually naming the pair, the direction, and the price levels for entry and exit. They may be distributed by email, messaging app, or trading platform, and may be free or sold on a subscription basis. A signal is not itself an order; the recipient decides whether and how to execute it.

What a signal contains

A complete signal normally specifies the instrument, the side (long or short), an entry price or range, a stop-loss level, and one or more take-profit levels. Some providers add a time frame, a suggested position size, or a rationale. Signals may be discretionary, based on a human analyst's view, or systematic, generated by an algorithm from price, indicator, or news data.

Delivery varies: a provider may post to a channel, send an alert through a platform, or connect directly to a broker so that trades are copied automatically. The last case is usually described as copy trading rather than signalling, because execution no longer depends on the recipient.

Worked example

A subscriber receives a signal on EUR/USD and sizes the position so that the distance to the stop represents a fixed cash risk.

SIGNAL WITH POSITION SIZING
SignalEUR/USD long, entry 1.0850, stop 1.0820, target 1.0940Risk 30 pips, reward 90 pips

Limits and risks

A signal states a view, not an outcome. Slippage, spread widening, and gaps between the quoted price and the fill can make the realised entry, stop, and target differ from those in the message. Providers differ in track record, transparency, and whether results are audited; past performance does not establish future results.

Regulatory treatment of signal services varies by country. Some jurisdictions require a provider giving specific trade recommendations to hold a licence or to register as an investment adviser; others apply lighter or no specific rules. Subscribers should check the regime that applies where the provider and the subscriber are located.
