Ngusd currency pair

Not to be confused with forex currency trading, major currency pairs, exotic currency pairs.
NGUSD currency pair denotes the exchange rate between the Nigerian naira and the United States dollar, usually expressed as the number of naira required to buy one dollar. The ticker NGUSD is not an ISO 4217 code; the naira's official code is NGN, so the pair is more commonly written USD/NGN. Because the notation is non-standard, the same market may appear under different symbols depending on the platform or data vendor.
Notation and market convention
ISO 4217 assigns the naira the code NGN and the US dollar the code USD. A conventional pair is written with a three-letter code on each side, such as USD/NGN or NGN/USD. The string NGUSD does not follow that pattern: it uses two letters for the naira and three for the dollar, and it omits the separator. Some brokers and data feeds use such shorthand internally, but it is not a standard identifier.
Market convention for USD/NGN quotes the price as naira per dollar. A quote of 1,500 means one dollar costs 1,500 naira. If a platform displays NGUSD instead, the direction and the number of decimals can differ, so the contract specification should be checked before any calculation.
Worked example
Suppose a trader converts 500 US dollars at a quoted rate of 1,550 naira per dollar, with a commission of 0.5% on the naira amount.
Availability and pricing
NGUSD or USD/NGN is not a major pair and is not offered by every broker. Where it is available, pricing may come from interbank quotes, a managed window, or a parallel market, and spreads can be wide. Settlement rules, trading hours, and leverage limits vary by jurisdiction and by firm, so the contract specification is the authoritative source for any particular listing.
Often confused with
- forex currency trading
- Forex currency trading is the general activity of buying and selling currencies, whereas NGUSD is one specific pair notation; the visible sign is that forex currency trading describes a market, not a ticker.
- major currency pairs
- Major currency pairs are the most heavily traded pairs, all of which include the US dollar and a currency such as the euro, yen, or pound, while NGUSD involves the Nigerian naira and is not classified as a major; the visible sign is the presence of NGN rather than EUR, JPY, GBP, or similar.
- exotic currency pairs
- Exotic currency pairs are pairs made of a major currency and a currency from a smaller or emerging market, and NGUSD fits that category, but the term exotic currency pairs refers to the whole group; the visible sign is that exotic currency pairs is a category label, whereas NGUSD is a single pair identifier.
