Vps for trading

Family V · Platforms

Not to be confused with forex vps, vps forex, vps for trading.

VPS for trading is a remote virtual private server used to host trading platforms such as MetaTrader, cTrader or proprietary terminals. The server runs in a data centre and stays online independently of the trader's local machine, which reduces the risk of missed orders caused by power cuts, sleep settings or home broadband outages. Latency to the broker's execution servers depends on the data centre's location and is not fixed.

How it works

A VPS is a virtualised slice of a physical server. The provider allocates CPU, RAM, storage and a network connection, and the user installs the trading platform on it. The platform then runs continuously, subject to the provider's uptime and the user's own configuration.

Execution speed is influenced by the distance between the VPS data centre and the broker's servers. Providers often offer multiple regions, and the round-trip latency varies by region, broker and network conditions. It is not a single universal figure.

Worked example: latency and uptime

VPS latency and uptime
Home connection latency to broker42 ms42 ms
VPS latency to broker (same region)3 ms3 ms
Home connection uptime (monthly)99.2%~5.8 h downtime
VPS uptime (monthly)99.95%~22 min downtime

Figures are illustrative. Actual latency and uptime depend on the provider, plan, region and broker infrastructure.
